Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan says the Capital will enjoy blue skies and sunshine during a “brief warm spell” but there is a chance of overnight thunderstorms late on Friday into the early hours of Saturday.
But he said any thunderstorms should have passed by early Saturday morning, paving the way for a dry day with some sunshine and possible temperatures of 19c or 20c.
Mr Morgan said: “We could see 25-26c in Edinburgh on Friday with plenty of sunshine – but the weekend will be fresher.”
Saturday is expected to be better than Sunday, when there is more chance of showers during the day.
28c possible in Scotland
Friday is expected to be warm across Scotland with highs of 28c expected along parts of the Moray coastline, such as Kinloss and Lossiemouth. The mercury could also rise to similar levels in the Scottish Borders.
Mr Morgan says the east of the country is likely to see the best of the sunshine and temperatures on Friday.
In Edinburgh, Wednesday (tomorrow) is forecast to be less windy than today with some cloud and sunny spells and temperatures reaching 19c later on.
However, Mr Morgan says Thursday will be a “bit of a blip” with a frontal system moving north across Scotland bringing some rain through the morning and early afternoon.
The rain should clear up later in the afternoon or evening, bringing sunshine across the Edinburgh area with temperatures of 19c possible again.
