Edinburgh Community & Climate Connect

Join Carbon Copy and Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (ECAN) at “Edinburgh Community & Climate Connect”. Taking place as Britain’s biggest sporting celebration of climate action and nature – Running Out of Time – reaches Edinburgh; this event will gather some of the city’s best eco-conscious voluntary organisations in the Life Church Hall, less than half a mile from beautiful Holyrood Park.

The event will kick off with a keynote presentation by none other than Dr Heather “The Weather” Reid OBE, former BBC Scotland weather reporter and passionate climate educator. You’ll also get an opportunity to learn more about Running Out of Time, and even to hold the baton!

Dr Heather “The Weather” Reid OBE – Keynote Speaker

Dr Heather Reid OBE is a physicist. She is also a meteorologist who spent 15 years as BBC Scotland’s chief weather forecaster and presenter. During this time, ‘Heather the Weather’ as she was affectionately known, combined her TV role with promoting science to young people and the general public. She has worked tirelessly at science festivals, school events and also science centres to highlight the importance of studying science. This work has led to several awards including, the prestigious Kelvin Medal from the Institute of Physics. She has honorary doctorates from the University of Paisley and the University of Glasgow. Heather received an OBE in 2006 for her services to physics.

Heather now uses her science engagement experience as a freelance education consultant. She does this with a variety of organisations. Heather specialises in promoting climate change as a context for interdisciplinary learning. She regularly contributes on topics such as sustainability and renewable energy as well as the topics of global citizenship and the importance of science. For a number of years she has worked with teachers. Heather delivers highly successful science education resources and activities for schools and local authorities.

 

About Running Out of Time

Running Out of Time is Britain’s biggest sporting celebration of climate action and nature. Taking place between June 10 and July 11th, thousands of runners, walkers, wheelers and cyclists will relay the baton over 2600km from Ben Nevis to Big Ben to demonstrate support, encourage collaboration and inspire more action NOW to reach net zero!

UK climate charity Carbon Copy is working with the organisers to highlight amazing examples of local climate action along the route, including through this exciting Community & Climate Connect event in Edinburgh, co-hosted by local climate network ECAN.

Attendees of this event are eligible for a 33% discount on entry to participate in Running Out of Time.
