This Indian Head Massage Training Course is a practical, fully accredited two day course designed for beginners and therapists who wish to expand their professional skills. No previous massage experience is required, making it an ideal starting point for those entering the wellbeing industry. It also provides an excellent foundation before progressing to Swedish Massage training or other bodywork qualifications.
I have been teaching Indian Head Massage in the Edinburgh and Lothian area for over twenty years, supporting hundreds of students to gain confidence, competence and professional accreditation. My approach is structured, supportive and focused on building both technical skill and therapist self care from day one.
During the two day training course, I demonstrate each massage technique clearly before guiding you step by step through supervised practice. You will work with other students in the group, allowing you to both give and receive the treatment. The learning is broken down into manageable sections so you can absorb each element thoroughly before bringing the full sequence together on the afternoon of the second day.
A strong emphasis is placed on posture, body mechanics and therapist wellbeing. This ensures you protect your own shoulders, back and wrists while delivering treatments. Developing safe working habits early is essential for long term career sustainability in massage and complementary therapy.
A full Indian Head Massage treatment includes massage of the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and upper arms, finishing with a relaxing facial sequence. The client remains fully clothed and seated in a chair, making this treatment highly versatile and accessible. Because no couch is required, it is particularly popular for workplace wellbeing days, community events, womens groups and pamper gatherings.
Following the two day training, you will complete ten case studies at home. Each case study client must receive a minimum of two treatments. This consolidation phase allows you to refine your technique, build confidence and develop client communication skills. Approximately eight to ten weeks later, you will return to carry out a practical assessment. During this assessment, you will deliver a full Indian Head Massage treatment without referring to notes. This final step ensures you are fully prepared to work professionally and charge clients with confidence.
The course is accredited by the Complementary Medical Association. Upon successful completion of training, case studies and assessment, you will receive a recognised certificate in Indian Head Massage.
Indian Head Massage continues to grow in popularity due to its flexibility, effectiveness and accessibility. It can be delivered as a full one hour treatment or adapted into shorter sessions of twenty to thirty minutes. Full guidance on structuring both options is included within the training.
If you are based in Edinburgh or the surrounding Lothian areas and wish to train in a supportive, professional environment with an experienced tutor, this accredited Indian Head Massage course provides a strong foundation for personal or professional development.
