Monday night rugby will be a feature of the new Guinness Pro14 season.
The first 11 rounds of fixtures for 2020-21 have been released. Edinburgh, who lost out to Ulster in the 2019-20 semi-finals, will open the new campaign at home to Ospreys on Saturday 3 October at 7:35pm. Glasgow travel to Galway to face Connacht on the same day, with the game kicking off at 5:15pm.
A number of games on Monday nights have been scheduled, most with 8:15pm kick-offs.
The first Monday night game will take place on 2 November when Glasgow host Leinster in a mouth-watering clash.
The following Monday, Edinburgh make their debut in the new slot when they host Cardiff Blues.
Both Scottish sides are in action on Monday 23 November when Edinburgh visit Dragons at 6pm and Glasgow host Irish giants Munster at 8:15pm.
The inter-city clashes between the Scottish sides will occupy their traditional festive slots, with Glasgow welcoming Edinburgh to Scotstoun Stadium on the weekend of 26-27 December, with the exact date and kick-off time yet to be confirmed.
The return match at Murrayfield will be on the following weekend, 2-3 January, again with the day and kick-off time to be determined.
Guinness Pro14 chiefs are in discussions over the possibility of expanding the competition through the addition of more South African franchises next year.
The pandemic means the Cheetahs will be unable to take part in the 2020-21 competition until January, while the Southern Kings are in administration. Once a replacement for the Kings has been found, it is hoped more South African teams will join as talks with South African Rugby continue.
“SA Rugby’s long-standing commitments are to field two teams in the Pro14,” a statement read. “In light of the withdrawal of the Southern Kings, discussions are ongoing about fulfilling this agreement from 2021 using a replacement team from its current professional franchises.
“Additionally, Pro14 Rugby and SA Rugby are in early discussions about potentially expanding the tournament and deepening our partnership to include more South African franchises from 2021.”
