SoFIGG Inaugural Symposium

Join us on 11 September 2026 for the inaugural symposium of the Society of Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy.

This first annual SoFIGG symposium will bring together experts and emerging voices from forensic investigative genetic genealogy, forensic science, genomics, bioethics, and genealogy for a full day of discussion on the latest developments in this fast-evolving field.

The programme will feature a number of presentations:
🔹Prof. Jeppe Dyrberg Andersen: FIGG in Denmark: From genome to genealogy
🔹Devon Griffin and Beverly Stevenson: The alias problem: Using IGG to unravel a 20th century serial offender
🔹Taner Kuru: Beyond access: Rethinking the privacy implications of investigative genetic genealogy
🔹Lauren Robilliard: Beyond borders: Applying investigative genetic genealogy in a global city
🔹Prof. Meradeth Snow: When DNA Is limited and communities matter: Ethical FIGG approaches in real‑world casework
🔹Teresa Vreeland: Evaluating SNP testing options in FIGG: Strategic selection, documentation, and privacy considerations [sponsored talk]

📍The event will take place at the magnificent Ghillie Dhu Auditorium, a beautiful Victorian venue located in the historic centre of Edinburgh.

Attendees are also invited to take part in accompanying networking events:
🔸 10 September – informal pre-symposium gathering at a Victorian pub
🔸 11 September – evening networking event with a Scottish cultural twist
